For partners & families

Recovery affects more than one person.

When someone you love is in recovery, you can carry a lot of the worry too.

The unanswered calls. Wondering where they are. Watching for changes. Trying to support them without constantly checking up on them.

Recovery Gaurdian gives partners, families and trusted supporters their own space for reassurance, information and support.

“Now I know whether I need to check in.”

  • Know where they are when location sharing is enabled — with the agreed 3-day cooling-off period in place.
  • Get an alert when an agreed risky location is entered, so you know it may be time to check in.
  • When financial tracking is enabled, unusual activity — large cash withdrawals, bookmaker or alcohol-related transactions, or a big change in spending — can raise an alert. That gives you a reason to check in.

Each of these only appears when the person in recovery has agreed to share it — and they can change that at any time.

Supporting someone in recovery?

Recovery Gaurdian gives you more than alerts. It gives you reassurance, information and a support space of your own.

Built for difficult moments

A 3-day cooling-off period for location sharing

Recovery can include difficult, emotional or impulsive moments. When location sharing has been voluntarily enabled for a trusted supporter, Recovery Gaurdian uses a three-day cooling-off period before that sharing arrangement can be switched off.

The aim is simple: an important support connection should not disappear because of one difficult moment.

Step 1

You choose to share

Location sharing is voluntarily enabled and the supporter is selected.

Step 2

Support stays connected

If a request is made to turn location sharing off, the three-day cooling-off period begins.

Step 3

Sharing ends

After the cooling-off period, the sharing arrangement can end in accordance with the app's existing rules.

You're told about the three-day cooling-off period before enabling location sharing.

  • Location sharing must first be voluntarily enabled.
  • You choose who receives the information.
  • The cooling-off period does not enable any tracking on its own.
  • It only applies after a location-sharing arrangement has already been voluntarily activated.

Removing support has a cooling-off period too.

The same safeguard applies to your recovery connections. Removing an existing supporter starts a 72-hour cooling-off period, helping prevent an impulsive decision from instantly disconnecting the people supporting your recovery.

  • The connection stays active for up to 72 hours.
  • The supporter keeps their existing permissions during that time.
  • The supporter is told that removal has been requested.
  • A supporter can approve a genuine removal sooner, ending it immediately.
  • If it isn't approved sooner, removal completes after 72 hours.
  • The request can be cancelled at any point during the period.

Equivalent safeguards apply to active professional and organisation recovery relationships, so support isn't lost the moment things feel difficult.

Can't they just switch their phone off?

Yes — a phone can physically be switched off, and no app can report a live position from a device with no power. But Recovery Gaurdian doesn't simply lose the trail.

When a device stops reporting, its last known location is retained and authorised supporters can see that location reporting has stopped.

If the phone is later switched back on and unlocked, Recovery Gaurdian is designed to resume authorised tracking in the background — without the app needing to be opened manually — and immediately attempts to obtain a genuine fresh location. Once obtained, it is uploaded straight away, becomes the new latest known location, and authorised supporters can receive a “Location reporting restored” notification.

If the phone is then switched off again, that newly captured location remains the latest known position.

Even a brief period with the phone switched back on and unlocked may be enough for Recovery Gaurdian to obtain and report a new location. GPS availability, network conditions and Android restrictions affect how quickly a genuine fresh fix becomes available.

  1. Tracking active

    Current location available.

  2. Phone switched off

Last known location retained. Supporter sees reporting has stopped.

  3. Phone back on + unlocked

Recovery Gaurdian automatically attempts to resume authorised tracking.

  4. Fresh location obtained

The new location is uploaded immediately.

  5. Supporter notified

    “Location reporting restored”.

  6. Phone off again

The new position remains the latest known location.

These cooling-off safeguards are not intended to keep anyone in an unsafe relationship or situation. Where there is a genuine safety, abuse, security or safeguarding concern, urgent safeguarding action remains available through the appropriate process.

Four steps — and you control every one

  1. Step 1

    Set up your profile

Role, recovery start date, what you track.

  2. Step 2

    Invite your Recovery Team

Partner, family, sponsor — you decide who.

  3. Step 3

    Choose what you share

Location, trigger zones and Open Banking are opt-in.

  4. Step 4

    Stay connected daily

    Check-ins, milestones, meetings and insights.

Financial tracking

Sometimes spending can be an early warning sign.

With Open Banking connected, Recovery Gaurdian can monitor financial activity for warning signs such as large cash withdrawals, bookmaker transactions, alcohol-related spending and unusual changes in spending behaviour.

When Guardian AI detects concerning activity, Recovery Gaurdian can alert the supporter so they know it may be time to check in.

From worry, to agreed information, to reassurance

  1. 1

    The worry

Loving someone in recovery can mean a constant, quiet fear of the worst.

  2. 2

    The agreement

Together you decide what is shared — progress, check-ins, location, financial context.

  3. 3

    The reassurance

You see the agreed picture, so you do not have to keep calling or checking.

Everything a supporter can see is shared with the agreement of the person in recovery, and they can change it at any time. Recovery Gaurdian is a support tool, not a monitoring or control tool.
