These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Recovery Gaurdian AI ("Recovery Gaurdian", "we", "us" or "our") governing your use of our mobile app, website (www.recoverygaurdian.com) and related services (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Important safety notice — not a medical service
Recovery Gaurdian is a peer-support and self-management tool. It is not a medical device, diagnostic tool, therapy service or emergency service. Gaurdian AI provides decision support only; it does not replace professional medical, psychological or clinical advice.
In a life-threatening emergency, always contact your local emergency services first (999 in the UK, 112 in the EU, 911 in the US). Alerting features in the Service are best-effort and depend on your device, permissions, network connectivity and the availability of third-party services.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old and legally able to enter into a binding contract to use the Service. By creating an account you confirm that you meet these requirements.
3. Your account
- You can sign up with an email and password, or with Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple.
- You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity that happens under your account.
- You must give accurate information and keep it up to date.
- You can reset a forgotten password from the sign-in screen; we will email a secure reset link to the address on file.
- You can delete your account at any time — see section 12.
4. Roles
Recovery Gaurdian supports several roles: Recovery User, Supporter, Family member, Professional and Admin. Each role sees a different experience and different data. You may only access data that has been explicitly shared with your role and with your specific account by the Recovery User concerned.
5. Consent-based features
The following features are off by default and require your explicit opt-in. You can turn each of them off at any time from within the app:
- GPS location tracking (foreground)
- Background location tracking (when the app is closed or the phone is locked)
- Gaurdian AI Coach and Insights
- Journal analysis by Gaurdian AI
- Open Banking connection via TrueLayer
- Push notifications
- Sharing data with specific members of your Recovery Team
Turning a feature off stops future processing and, where relevant, deletes the associated tokens (for example the Open Banking token when you disconnect your bank).
6. Location tracking and the Recovery Agreement
Location sharing is governed by an in-app Recovery Agreement between you (as the Recovery User) and the supporters you invite. Once accepted, the agreement enters into force immediately. To keep supporters informed, deactivation of the Recovery Agreement is subject to a fixed 3-day waiting period during which your Recovery Team is notified. Emergency deactivation procedures are described in the app.
7. Supporter alerts
When you have accepted the Recovery Agreement, Gaurdian AI may send alerts to your Recovery Team (for example financial risk alerts or elevated recovery risk). Supporters may acknowledge, call, or resolve these alerts. Recovery Gaurdian does not guarantee delivery of any specific alert.
8. Meeting Finder
Meeting information is provided as a convenience and comes from publicly-available sources including the Bmlt (Basic Meeting List Toolbox) directory. Meeting times, locations and formats change; we cannot guarantee that any listing is accurate or up to date. Please confirm details directly with the meeting host or fellowship before travelling.
9. Gaurdian AI
Gaurdian AI features (Coach, Insights, Nudges, Journal analysis) produce output generated by large language models. AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete or misleading and must not be relied on as medical, legal or financial advice. You are responsible for how you act on any suggestion generated by Gaurdian AI.
10. Open Banking (TrueLayer)
If you connect a bank account via TrueLayer, you authorise Recovery Gaurdian to receive read-only transaction data for the connected accounts. We never receive your banking password and cannot move money. You can disconnect the bank at any time from within the app, which revokes access and deletes the stored tokens. Open Banking is provided by TrueLayer, an FCA-authorised Account Information Service Provider.
11. Acceptable use
You agree that you will not:
- Use the Service for anything unlawful or harmful
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your relationship to a Recovery User
- Use the Service to stalk, harass, monitor without consent, or coerce anyone
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to another user's account or data
- Reverse engineer, scrape, or interfere with the Service or its infrastructure
- Upload malware, spam, or content that infringes another person's rights
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these rules.
12. Account deletion
You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the app (Profile → Account → Delete account) or by emailing hello@recoverygaurdian.com. Full details are set out in our Account Deletion Policy.
13. Fees
Recovery Gaurdian 1.0 is currently free to use. If we introduce paid features in the future, we will give you clear notice and an opportunity to review the terms before any charge is made.
14. Intellectual property
Recovery Gaurdian, the Gaurdian AI name, our logos, designs and software are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. You keep ownership of the content you create in the Service (journal entries, check-ins, goals). You grant us a limited licence to process that content solely to provide the Service to you.
15. Third-party services
The Service relies on third parties including Supabase, Cloudflare, Google, Apple, TrueLayer, Resend and OpenStreetMap. Your use of those services may be subject to their own terms. We are not responsible for third-party services outside our control.
16. Availability
We work hard to keep the Service running but do not guarantee that it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free. We may modify, suspend or discontinue features to protect users, meet legal requirements or improve the product.
17. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that alerts, notifications or AI outputs will be timely, accurate or complete.
18. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any liability that cannot be excluded under UK law.
Subject to that, to the fullest extent permitted by law, Recovery Gaurdian is not liable for: (a) indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages; (b) loss of profit, revenue, data or goodwill; or (c) any harm arising from your reliance on AI output, alerts, or third-party services. Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of £100 or the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim arose.
19. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify Recovery Gaurdian against reasonable claims and costs arising from your unlawful use of the Service or your breach of these Terms.
20. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms or if we reasonably believe your use is harmful to others or to the Service. On termination, sections that by their nature should survive (including sections 14, 17, 18, 19 and 22) will continue to apply.
21. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the revised Terms.
22. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer resident in the EU you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence, and mandatory local consumer protections continue to apply.
