Recovery Gaurdian AI gives you full control over your account. You can permanently delete your account and all associated personal data at any time, free of charge, without needing to contact us first.
This policy explains how deletion works, what is removed, how long it takes, and what (if anything) we keep afterwards.
1. How to delete your account
Option A — In the app (recommended)
- Open Recovery Gaurdian and sign in.
- Go to Profile → Account.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm the action:
- If you signed up with email & password: enter your current password.
- If you signed up with Google or Apple: type the word
DELETEto confirm.
- Your request enters a 72-hour pending deletion period. You can cancel it at any time during that period by signing back in and choosing Cancel deletion.
- After 72 hours the account and associated personal data are permanently deleted.
Emergency Account Deletion
If you need your account removed straight away because of an urgent privacy or safety concern, use the Emergency Account Deletion option in Profile → Account. This skips the 72-hour period, deletes your data immediately and cannot be cancelled.
Option B — By email
If you cannot access the app, email us from the address on your account:
- To: hello@recoverygaurdian.com
- Subject: Account deletion request
- Body: the email address (and, if possible, the name) on the account.
We will verify the request and complete deletion within 7 days. We may ask a follow-up question to confirm it is really you.
2. What gets deleted
When you delete your account we permanently erase:
- Your login (email/password, Google or Apple identity)
- Your profile: name, avatar, role, recovery focus, sobriety start date
- All check-ins, journal entries, moods, goals and meeting history
- All location history and background location settings
- Personal trigger locations and safe destinations
- Gaurdian AI conversation history, memories and generated insights
- Open Banking connection tokens and stored transactions (TrueLayer access is revoked)
- Recovery agreements and team invitations you created
- Recovery-team links from and to your account (supporters lose access)
- Financial and recovery risk alerts linked to your account
- Push notification tokens for your devices
- Support requests and bug reports you submitted
3. What may be kept, and why
A very small amount of information may be retained for legal, security or accounting reasons. If any data is kept it will be the minimum needed and, where possible, in anonymised form:
- Security and abuse logs (for example failed sign-in attempts, IP address of the deletion request) — up to 12 months.
- Anonymous usage analytics already aggregated into Google Analytics 4 that no longer identify you.
- Records we are legally required to keep — for example tax or fraud-prevention records if you ever made a purchase.
- Encrypted backups that expire on rotation. Any residual personal data in backups is permanently overwritten within 30 days of deletion.
4. How long the process takes
- Pending period: 72 hours from your request, during which you can cancel by signing back in (Emergency Account Deletion is immediate).
- Live systems: deletion is applied as soon as the 72-hour period expires, and within 7 days for requests made by email.
- Encrypted backups: residual data is overwritten within 30 days.
- Third-party sub-processors: we notify them to remove copies within the same 30-day window.
5. Effect on your Recovery Team
When your Recovery User account is deleted, all supporters, family members and professionals linked to you immediately lose access to your data, location and alerts. They are not told the reason for the deletion.
If you are a supporter and delete your account, you are removed from every Recovery User's team; those Recovery Users are notified that a supporter has left.
6. Reactivation
You can cancel a deletion request at any point during the 72-hour pending period simply by logging back into your account. Once that period has expired, deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. If you want to use Recovery Gaurdian again in the future you are welcome to sign up for a new account, but previous data cannot be restored.
7. Your rights
Deletion is one of your rights under UK/EU GDPR (the "right to erasure"). You also have the right to access, correct or receive a copy of your data before deleting. Email hello@recoverygaurdian.com to make any of these requests.
For more detail see our Privacy Policy.
